Has it really been two years since I lasted posted here? It appears so. And for that I apologize. A lot has happened since then. Really? It all sounds like the same old thing to me. Liberals wanting things their way or the highway. Things like gun control, making free speech not so free and telling sports teams that they have to change their name because it might offend somebody. Let's start with that, shall we?
The Washington Redskins have had their trademark protections removed because the name might be offensive to some? Well then, how about the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? Might that be offensive to atheists? The Giants, either from San Fran or New York, to shorter folk? The Padres to non Spanish speakers? The Raiders, Buccaneers and Pirates to people that have had ancestors killed by the scourge of the high seas? Do you see where we can take this?
Some will say that I'm over exaggerating. I don't think so. If one team can be made to change their name then any of them can. And there's no stopping the insanity. Teams named for animals will be castigated by animal rights groups. After all exploiting cougars and dolphins by naming a team after them is inhuman.
The sooner people stop seeing themselves as victims in this country, the sooner they can get on with the business of living. I am of partial Irish decent. During the turn of the last century the Irish were discriminated against because of their religious views. I don't feel like I am owed anything by the descendants of those that did the discriminating. The term "Paddy Wagon" has a derisive meaning towards the Irish because they were thought of as being drunks and the wagon was used to haul them off to jail. It is an old term and I couldn't care less about it. If I were to hear it either as a citizen or as a police officer, I know I wouldn't be offended.
The PC thugs in this country are out of control. I can't remember seeing it written anywhere that you have the right to not be offended by anyone. The First Amendment deals with free speech. There is a lot of things said in this country that I don't agree with or that I find downright offensive. Oh well, I voice my displeasure here. I don't take to the streets, petition Congress for new legislation or lose sleep over it.
