Hateful People

I'm sure by now that everyone has heard the mindless drivel spewing forth from the mouth of Janeane Garofalo. I'm not sure if I have spelled her name correctly, nor do I care. She thinks that everyone that attended a tea party is a racist. I will concede that there are some in this country that are still closed minded and bigoted. But the words always and never should not be used when describing a group's action because absolutes are almost impossible to prove. So she knows that what she says it inaccurate and yet she continues.

She was spotted in Boston the other day and approached by folks from the Fox News Channel I believe and again just ran her mouth without thinking. Her argument was that she did see a couple of questionable signs and immediately assumed that all in attendance agreed with that sign. Another argument she uses is why wasn't everyone protesting for the last eight years when President Bush was helping to create the deficit.

I have addressed the first issue in a previous paragraph, now I will tackle the second. I would wager that quite a few people have been troubled by the way the government spends our tax dollars for a long time. I know I have. The thing now is that the amount of money being spent is unfathomable. I know I can't wrap my head around $780 billion dollars. And that's just one bill that he signed. How about the billions given to the banks and the auto industry. I realize that the government had given out $700 billion to the banks just before the first of the year, but how much more can we give? Then the money to the auto industry and still GM had to declare bankruptcy. That didn't turn out to be such a good investment did it? The banks and the auto industry brought this on themselves through pure greed. Why should we as tax paying citizens have to pay for their mistakes?

Do I think that reducing the debt by half in the next four years is a good thing? Of course I do. I have not heard anyone say different. But with the amount of money going out, how in the hell does the government think it can recoup enough to pay down the deficit? The only way I can think of is by taxing the hell out of the things we use on a daily basis.

Then I hear Joe Biden telling a group of schoolchildren that the government is going to pay for them to go to college if their families don't have the money. When does it end? Between universal health care, the bank and auto bailouts, helping people pay their mortgages when they bought too much house and extending unemployment will be broke before we know it. Even before we know it.

All this will accomplish is lowering the standard of living for the middle class. Which by the way is the class that goes to work and pays their fair share of taxes. Only to give to those who will not do for themselves a bigger piece of the pie.

That is socialism.
